Ecommerce web design, judged on orders, not applause.

Most online stores lose more money at the checkout than anywhere else on the site. That is where the design effort should go, and it rarely does.

What we do

Ecommerce web design, where the checkout is the design.

An online shop gets judged on one number, and it is not how good the homepage looks. Roughly seven in ten baskets are abandoned across the industry, and most of the reasons are fixable design decisions rather than mysteries: unexpected delivery costs appearing at the last step, a forced account registration, too many form fields, a payment method the customer does not use, or a page that takes five seconds to load on a phone. Good ecommerce design starts at the checkout and works backwards. Product pages need real photography, clear stock and delivery information and a price that does not change later. Category pages need filters that work on a phone. Everything needs to be fast, because speed and revenue are directly linked in a way few other metrics are.

Where the marketing works and the site does not.

Why it matters

Where the money actually leaks.

Surprise costs at checkout

Delivery charges appearing at the final step are the single most cited reason for abandonment.

Every second costs orders

Page speed and conversion move together. On mobile the effect is sharper still.

Mobile is most of it

More than half of retail visits are on a phone, and a checkout that is awkward there is losing most of your traffic.

What's included

What an ecommerce build includes.

Discovery

Products, margins, delivery rules and the awkward exceptions, mapped before design.

Product and category design

Pages built to inform and convert rather than to look good in a screenshot.

Checkout optimisation

Fewer steps, guest checkout, honest delivery costs shown early and the payment methods your buyers use.

Performance

Image handling, caching and clean code, because speed is revenue in retail.

Integrations

Stock, accounting, shipping and marketing connected so nobody rekeys an order.

Hosting and support

UK hosting and a team you can ring when something breaks on a Saturday.

Why Expect Best

We have built stores that trade.

Designed around your products

Different catalogues need different structures. A fifty-product store and a five-thousand-product store are not the same project.

In-house Poole team

Design, build, integrations and marketing under one roof.

Support that continues

Trading since 2010 with 400+ clients. We host and look after the stores we build.

You own it

Your store, your data, your customer list, whatever happens between us.

Our process

From first conversation to trading.

01

Discovery

Catalogue, delivery rules, payment and the exceptions that always exist.

02

Design

Product, category and checkout journeys designed before anything is built.

03

Build and integrate

Developed, connected to your other systems, then tested with real orders.

04

Launch and improve

Live, then measured and refined based on what buyers actually do.

Eight to sixteen weeks depending on catalogue size and integrations. Product data is usually the thing that decides the date.

The exact timeline and cost depend on your project. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll come back with both, no pressure.

The numbers

Each day we facilitate

Real results we help our clients achieve, day in, day out.

What we build on

Three platforms, three different answers.

The right platform depends on volume, control and how much technical upkeep you want to own.

Shopify

Hosted, reliable and quick to trade on. Best where you want to sell rather than maintain.

WooCommerce

Full control and no platform fee, at the cost of owning the maintenance yourself.

Custom builds

Where the selling model is genuinely unusual and neither platform fits without a fight.

FAQs

Ecommerce web design FAQs

The questions retailers ask before committing to a build.

Shopify if you want to trade with the least technical upkeep and are comfortable with a monthly fee plus transaction costs. WooCommerce if you want full control and will fund the maintenance. Both can work well.

Usually delivery costs appearing late, a forced account registration, too many fields, or a slow checkout on mobile. Those four account for most of it and all are fixable.

Yes, including products, customers and order history, with redirects so the search visibility carries over. That last part is where most migrations go wrong.

More than a brochure site, because there is more to build and more to connect. We quote each store individually once we know the catalogue and the integrations.
